Indie Docs Episode 2: An Interview with Dr. D, general surgery, Niger

Dr. D (name shortened for privacy) is someone Joy and I met in residency; he and Joy were general surgery residents together. He and his wife decided to spend two years in Niger practicing general surgery almost right out of residency with their three boys. They recently returned to Texas for a few months for the birth of their fourth boy, which is were we caught up with him, before heading back to Niger. He shares his family’s story about how they got to this point, both practically and financially, and about working in Galmi, Niger.

Here are links to some of the resources he mentioned in the podcast including MedSend, SIM, and Samaritan’s Purse. The SIM website for Galmi hospital is here. As he mentioned, the website for the America College of Surgeons Operation Give Back has numerous opportunities if you are looking for one.
