Will Copeland graduated residency 3 years ahead of me. Over the course of residency, he and Alisa decided to move with their 5 kids (at the time) to Tenwick Hospital in Kenya. They had a 6th baby in-country. After two years there, they came back for 1 year to raise funds to go back.
This is the article he wrote for the news letter of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) after his first trip to Tenwick. He followed it with a second article after he had been there a bit. An interview done by Christopher Graffeo, another one of our co-residents, with Will after he was awarded the AANS Young Neurosurgeons Committee 2018 Public Service Citation Recipient, is a good read as well.
The Samaritan’s Purse post-residency program is the funding he used for his first two years.
